Mid-major Player of the Week – Antoine Davis

It has been a while since there has been this much competition for the mid-major player of the week. It also has been a while since there have been multiple players who have scored 40 points in the same week. Take nothing away from Marcus Tshonis he came in as a close second, any time you can score 46 points in a game it needs to be recognized. Davis had some bigger accomplishments and that is what set him apart from the rest of the finalists.

It has been mentioned here before but Davis is one of the game’s elite scorers. Every game he plays has the potential to be a 40-point game and in his one game last week he recorded his second straight 40-point game and with that, became the second-leading scorer in NCAA history. Davis has had a great four and a half years as a Titan and while he could have left a long time ago to go and play for any power school in the country he chose to stay in Detroit and play for his father.

Entering this week the guard has Pistol Pete in his sights as he currently only needs 393 points over the final 11 games to reach the Pistol. That means he would need to average 36 points per game to reach the mark. That is not something that many guys could do but Davis is the one player in Division 1 who could do that. Expect Davis to be a finalist for most of the remaining weeks of the regular season. He is going to get the looks to try and break the Pistol’s record.
