Oklahoma Sooners – 11-9 (2-6)

The Sooners are the perfect example of what life in Big 12 Basketball is like. They’re 2-6 in league play but four of those losses, including to Texas and Kansas, were by a combined 10 points. But if you’re a glass-half-full person, they also have lost by a combined 33 points in the past two games, while having a one-point victory and an overtime win over the two worst teams in the league, Texas Tech and West Virginia.

The issue for Oklahoma has been its lack of high-end talent. Grant Sherfield is the only player scoring more than 11 ppg on the season and was huge in the non-conference. But as expected, the transfer guard from Nevada has seen his production slip in the Big 12, scoring 14 ppg. That’s still good enough to lead the team, which isn’t going to be good enough in the 18-game marathon.

Forward Jalen Hill has stepped up, averaging 13 ppg in league play and freshman Milos Uzan has become a starter at the point guard position. But the Groves brothers, Tanner and Jacob, aren’t scoring much at all and that lack of offense is affecting their chances of winning.

Credit to head coach Porter Moser for even keeping this team competitive and had they won two of those four close games, would be clearly in the bubble conversation. But the past two blowouts may be signaling a future collapse, as the lack of talent is affecting them.
