13. Nebraska Cornhuskers – 10-12 (3-8)

After beating Ohio State a couple of weeks ago, it looked as if the Cornhuskers were set to be the ultimate spoiler in Big Ten Basketball. But they’re regressed since, losing three straight games by double figures, including a couple of recent blowouts.

At home against Northwestern, Nebraska’s defense struggled, giving up 43 points in the first half. They never managed to get into the game, losing 78-63. Guard Keisei Tominaga had 22 points on 9/17 shooting, with freshman guard Jamarques Lawrence having 12 points in the first start of his career.

It wasn’t much better this past weekend at Maryland, with the Cornhuskers struggling on both ends once again. The final scorer was 82-63, Derrick Walker scoring 16 points and eight rebounds on 8/12 shooting. He was the lone starter in double figures, although Sam Griesel did chip in with six assists and just one turnover. Sophomore guard Sam Hoiberg, son of the head coach Fred Hoiberg, did have 15 points off the bench on 3/3 from deep.

It doesn’t give any easier for Nebraska the rest of the way, with Illinois, Penn State, and Michigan coming up. But like Minnesota, the Cornhuskers do have the chance to affect the bubble if they can pull off an upset or two.
