Bracketology 2023: Texas, Indiana and Saint Mary’s among week’s biggest winners
Nevada Wolf Pack
When it comes to the Mountain West, there are five programs with a legit chance at an at-large bid. The biggest surprise easily is Nevada, who underperformed last season and had to rebuild its roster. The new pieces are apparently gelling much better, as they’re not only in the NCAA Tournament discussion but currently in the projected fields.
This week was a rubber stamp on the season’s success for the Wolf Pack, beating both Air Force and San Deigo State. Both results were important, as the 20-point win over the Falcons helps the metrics, even if they aren’t a quality win in itself.
More important was the win over the Aztecs, the best team in the Mountain West. It was a 75-66 victory, led by 26 points from Jarod Lucas and a combined 37 points from Will Baker and Kenan Blackshear.
That makes it an 8-6 record against Quad 1 and 2 opponents, along with zero Quad 3 and 4 defeats. Nevada could probably afford a couple of bad losses and remain in the field and as long as they can survive the road trip at Fresno State and Wyoming at the end of the month, should be in a good position.
