NCAA Basketball Roundup: Duke wins rivalry clash, Gonzaga falls to Saint Mary’s
Tennessee wins ugliest game of the season
Auburn and Tennessee are not only two of the best team defenses in the SEC but in NCAA Basketball overall. So it was expected that the game would be fairly low scoring. But one expected the teams to combine to shoot 30/118 from the field for a brutal 25%.
The halftime score was 23-19 in the Vols’ favor, which is a display of both their strength and weakness. They can limit teams to long-scoring droughts but also have some of their own. And the Tigers’ offense is dependent on that kind of shooting night between K.D. Johnson and Wendell Green Jr., which wasn’t good on Saturday.
It was a game where neither team got anything going but Tennessee was able to hang on for the 46-43 victory. Josiah Jordan-James was easily the MVP of the game, scoring a game-high 15 points while grabbing 14 of the many misses in the game. After losing at Florida, the Vols stopped the bleeding and still are in contention for a 1 seed in March.
Auburn is likely to drop out of the next NCAA Basketball rankings and honestly, it’s overdue. They just haven’t been a top-25 team for a while but will need to play better, with Texas A&M and Alabama coming up.
