ACC Basketball power rankings: Dukes falls down, NC State and Pittsburgh moves up
2. Miami Hurricanes – 20-4 (12-4)
Against Duke and Louisville at home, the expectation was that Miami would have a tough game against one and a blowout versus another. But they ended up being the beneficiary of a tough scheduling move to have the Blue Devils play on the road right after playing rival North Carolina on the weekend prior.
The Hurricanes got a big lead in the first half and made the game non-competitive overall, winning 81-59. Norchad Omier shined in the game, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Miller had 16 and Wooga Popular chipped in with 14 points. Nijel Pack had just six points but did have six assists in the win.
Against Louisville, Miami was clearly caught sleeping, as they were trailing far longer than anyone expected, up just one point at halftime. The Hurricanes defense wasn’t anywhere to be found but the offense found a way to pull out the 93-85 win. Three players had 20+ points for Miami, with Pack going for 22 and Omier and Isaiah Wong each having 21.
With Monday’s win over North Carolina on the road, Miami leads the ACC with 12 wins and is right in the ACC title picture with both Virginia and Pittsburgh. They have just one more game this week to play, a home battle with Wake Forest.
