ACC Basketball power rankings: Dukes falls down, NC State and Pittsburgh moves up
11. Virginia Tech Hokies – 15-10 (5-9)
At some point, the nice metrics and the pass given for not having Hunter Cattoor in the lineup weren’t going to be enough to keep Virginia Tech on the bubble. Being under .500 in a fairly weak ACC Basketball league wasn’t going to cut it. And this past week has all but eliminated them from contention.
The game that did them in was at home against Boston College, which already has a win over the Hokies. For some reason, head coach Mike Young literally can’t beat the Eagles and that showed once again, with an 82-76 upset loss. Grant Basile went for 33 points on 12/21 shooting from the field, while Justyn Mutts (16) and Sean Pedulla (12) also were in double figures.
Virginia Tech was able to bounce back on the weekend with a 93-87 win over Notre Dame, which was the most points both scored and given up in ACC play. Basile went for another 33 points, while Mutts was one triple-double watch with 19 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
The Hokies now go on the road to take on Georgia Tech, who has both lost to Louisville but was feisty in the past couple of games. They follow that up with a road battle with Pittsburgh, who has had some entertaining clashes with them in recent years.
