Marquette Golden Eagles

There were two Big East programs that made the bracket reveal and surprisingly, neither of them was UConn. Xavier and Marquette got the nod, with the Golden Eagles having that non-conference victory over Baylor to thank for.

The Golden Eagles had just one game this week, a matchup at home against Xavier. After a slow start scoring-wise it ended up being one of the top games of the week, coming down to the final seconds. Marquette was able to pull out the 69-68 victory, led by 17 points and six assists from Stevie Mitchell. Tyler Kolek had 15 points and five assists, while forward Oso Ighodaro went for 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Eagles did have some bad news, as the loss to Wisconsin has moved from a Quad 2 to a Quad 3. And with them losing to Rutgers, that stings even more. But the good news is that they’re a combined 11-6 against Quad 1/2 opponents and have great metrics across the board.

Marquette has four games left in the regular season. Three of them are against the bottom of the Big East, with the fourth being on the road at Creighton this upcoming week. Assuming they beat the others, and get the victory over the Bluejays as well, they’ll be in great shape to move up to a 3 seed.
