When it comes to the Tigers’ Bracketology resume, it’s felt that for the past month, their season was going to come down to whether or not they beat Houston at least one time in the regular season, or in the AAC Tournament to just simply get an automatic bid.

A big part of the reason why is that Memphis has lacked the signature wins to this point. In the non-conference, they’ve beaten Auburn and Texas A&M, along with VCU and Ole Miss. The ladder two have not looked better as time has gone on, along with a trio of AAC losses to Tulane and UCF. The loss on the road at Houston on Sunday limits them to one last opportunity, with no other meaningful games left other than potential landmines.

But will their season come down to just the Houston game? Memphis’ non-conference has suddenly looked better as of late, with the Texas A&M victory looking even stronger than Auburn, while Vanderbilt has gone from the bottom of the SEC to now over .500. And while losing to Tulane twice stings, the Green Wave has quietly moved to second in the AAC standings and isn’t a bad loss.

Memphis seems destined to end up on the cutline and has to avoid a bad road loss to either SMU or Wichita State before the return battle with the Cougars. It’s the ultimate middle-of-the-road resume right now that looks either good or bad depending on how you look at it. Two more losses could make things really interesting with them unless they can beat Houston.
