Bracketology 2023: Duke, Auburn, Texas and UCLA among biggest winners
Kentucky Wildcats
Not too long ago, Kentucky was on the bubble and could’ve easily found itself out of the NCAA Tournament picture. But a four-game win streak has since taken them out of the danger zone. The next mission is to get out of the 8/9 seed range to avoid a 1 seed in the Round of 32.
The goal took a hit earlier in the week, taking a home loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores. Considering how much Vandy has improved, it’s not the worst loss in the world but it’s still Quad 3. Making things worse, freshman point guard Cason Wallace was declared out for the next game with an injury and with Sahvir Wheeler already out, left the Wildcats without many ball-handlers.
But one guard that was ready to step up was Antonio Reeves, who went for a career-high 37 points on 12/17 shooting in an 88-79 road victory over Arkansas. Jacob Toppin stepped up with 21 points as well. It’s a Quad 1 road win that helps offset the previous defeat to the Commodores.
When this team is healthy, they’re very formidable and will put up a fight in the SEC Tournament. If they can get a win or two, the Wildcats should be safe from that tough part of the bracket. Of course, that would depend on the health of the guards, cause Reeves can’t score 37 all the time.
