Bracketology 2023: 8 biggest storylines during Championship Week
5. How each of the 8 Big 12 teams will be seeded on Selection Sunday
There’s no debate as to who the top conference is in college hoops, as the Big 12 has, by metrics standards, no bad teams. There was a brief moment in the regular season where all 10 programs had a shot at an at-large bid but both Oklahoma and Texas Tech lost too many times to stay in contention.
That leaves eight teams in the mix, with as many as six possibly getting a protected top-16 seed. Kansas has already been mentioned as a 1 seed, but both Texas and Baylor have the resumes to be on the 2-line at the moment. The Longhorns, who have 10+ Quad 1 wins entering the conference tournament, have an outside shot at a 1 seed as well if they happen to win it all this week.
That leaves to the interesting question of who will not only get the 3/4 Quad 1 wins this week but how far can they move up in the seed lines? Kansas State and Iowa State also was in the top-16 bracket reveal, though the Cyclones have had a recent skid. So has TCU, who when healthy looks like a 3-4 seed but the current resume may have them around an 8.
Outside of Oklahoma State being on the bubble and likely needing one more win to feel good, the Big 12 Tournament doesn’t have a ton of suspense. But it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the winner and where they ultimately end up on Selection Sunday.
