7. The “worst” power conference still has plenty to be decided

The ACC has been derided for having some of the worst collective metrics in recent memory, as the bottom of the conference has really pulled the weight down. Although the middle has had its issues as well.

The headline team not only in the ACC but in the entire sport this week is North Carolina, the preseason No. 1 team. After losing to Duke last weekend and having just a 1-9 record against Quad 1 opponents, the Tar Heels may have to win the entire tournament or end up making history.

They’re not the only ones that have work to do this week. Clemson started league play with an 8-0 record but finds itself on the wrong side of the bubble at the moment, thanks to a trio of Quad 4 losses on the season, including one to lowly Louisville. Pittsburgh is in a better position than the Tigers but the Panthers didn’t do themselves any favors last week either, losing to a 3-17 Notre Dame team on the road.

As bad as the ACC has been overall, they can still get up to six teams in the NCAA Tournament. Duke, Virginia, NC State, and Miami are safely in, with Pitt, UNC, and Clemson still in the mix. And look out for bid thieves such as Wake Forest and Virginia Tech that have the ability to make a run. This league has been beating itself up for a while and could do so again this week. And based on the results may only have four bids to the Big Dance.
