Texas Tech Basketball: 10 candidates to replace Mark Adams as head coach

While we skipped over names like Rick Pitino, you can bet that there are a number of high-profile head coaches who will at least get a phone call from the Red Raiders to pique their interest. Williams won’t just be a name that gets a quick glance, he’ll be a serious candidate to jump ship from Texas A&M and take over this program in the Big 12.
An assistant at a number of schools over the years, including Texas A&M in the Big 12, Williams has had a fruitful head coaching career. He lead Marquette to the Elite Eight in 2013, took Virginia Tech to their first ever Sweet Sixteen in 2019, and has this year’s Texas A&M program looking marvelous in his 4th season, finishing 2nd in a tough SEC. He’s already won more than 300 games at the D1 level and is certainly the most experienced name on today’s list.
Why would Williams bolt again? Texas Tech has more resources and better facilities than Texas A&M and the move would keep him in his home state of Texas. He did fantastic work at Marquette and Virginia Tech, but that didn’t stop him from leaving for other jobs. His work with the Aggies is certainly not complete after engineering quite a turnaround in recent years, but he could do even better things in the Big 12 with the Red Raiders.
We’ve looked closely at ten potential candidates for the Texas Tech head coaching job, though there will certainly be other names mentioned in the coming days and weeks. Who do you think is going to get the job?
