Grant McCasland

In recent years, this has been one of those names that comes up for those power conference jobs, especially the ones in the Midwest. It’s very possible that Texas Tech brings aboard a talented and relatively young head coach who played and coached in the Big 12 and has been extremely successful at the mid-major level, snatching him up before another program can sink their claws into him.

We’re talking big on McCasland for good reason, especially with his work at North Texas the last six years. Before that, he’s a former Baylor point guard who put in a half-decade of work on Scott Drew’s staff, and we’ve already seen what former Bears assistants can do as head coaches. He’s averaging more than 21 wins preseason with the Mean Green and lead them to a first-round upset in the NCAA Tournament over Purdue back in 2021.

One thing we didn’t mention is that McCasland is a former director of operations at Texas Tech (more than two decades ago) and this would be quite the homecoming. He’s an ideal candidate for the Red Raiders, with experience on campus, in the conference, and with success as a head coach (and not just at North Texas). He might be the best option Texas Tech has that isn’t one of the big names.
