60. Dusty May – Florida Atlantic

0 NCAA Tournaments

It may be hard to find a head coach who has had a better year this season than May, whose Florida Atlantic team really burst onto the national scene. He’s a former student manager at Indiana who picked up coaching experience at a number of D1 schools, including under Mike White at Florida. His first head coaching job with these Owls has really ignited in this his fifth season, winning the CUSA Tournament and already winning 31 games this season.

59. Rob Senderoff – Kent State

1 NCAA Tournament (0-1)

Senderoff bounced around as a collegiate assistant for over a decade before getting his shot to run this program. He had a couple of seasons on Kelvin Sampson’s staff at Indiana before joining Kent State’s staff until his promotion to head coach in 2011. Across his twelve years at the helm, he’s won just under 62% his games and is taking the Golden Flashes to the Big Dance for a second time after winning the MAC Tournament.

58. Mitch Henderson – Princeton

1 NCAA Tournament (0-1)

Henderson grew up in Indiana and found success as a basketball player at Princeton back in the late 90’s. After his playing career ended, he followed his college coach Bill Carmody to Northwestern and began his coaching career with an 11-year stint with the Wildcats. Henderson was hired to take over at his alma mater in 2011 and has been a consistent contender, winning the last two regular season titles in the Ivy League. Henderson is headed to his second trip to the Big Dance after winning the Ivy League Tournament.

57. Paul Mills – Oral Roberts

1 NCAA Tournament (2-1)

It’s been a historic season at Oral Roberts, completing a clean sweep in dominating the Summit League all season long. Mills spent greater than a decade as an aide under Scott Drew during his long rebuild at Baylor before taking this first head coaching job six seasons ago. However, this is far from the first breakthrough for Mills, who led this team as a 15-seed to an unexpected Sweet Sixteen run in 2021. This year, the Summit League champions have already won 30 games in Mills’ finest effort as head coach.
