Everyone loves to talk about “Kemba Candidates” in March, and Smith has the potential as a scoring guard to win a few games for the Wolfpack. Smith is a pure scorer, fresh off a 30-point game in the ACC Tournament. But I think his passing improvements have been notable this year. He is noticeably frail, causing some concerns on the defensive end, and his three-point shooting has dipped from 36% to 33% this year, but Smith takes a ton of tough shots and is probably a better shooter than numbers suggest.

The Wolfpack’s path to the second weekend is not an easy one. They’ll have to go through Creighton in round one (which should be one of the more heavily-scouted first-round games), before a potential matchup with Baylor and projected first-round pick, Keyonte George.

Smith is a projected late-first-round, early second-round pick right now and if the Wolfpack have any chance to win a game or two, he will need a good showing. The tournament is about guard play and a locked-in Smith can help himself this week.
