NCAA Tournament 2023: Power ranking of top 100 players overall from the field
By Joey Loose
60. Tyson Degenhart – Boise State
In the Tournament for a second straight year, Degenhart is an impressive sophomore forward who’s been one of the best scorers in the Mountain West. Named First Team All-MWC, he’s averaging 14.3 points and 5.4 rebounds a game and is one of the most efficient shooters in the conference.
59. J’Wan Roberts – Houston
The big step forward that Roberts took this season is a major reason why the Cougars have a 1-seed after losing most of their frontcourt from last year. Roberts averaged 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds a game and was named AAC Most Improved Player. Also named Second Team All-AAC, Roberts was a top-rated player on both sides of the ball, hitting 62% of his field goals, while sitting among the league leaders in blocks and rebounds.
58. Walter Clayton Jr. – Iona
Where would Iona be without Clayton’s development this year? After serving in a bench role as a freshman, this impressive sophomore guard averaged 16.9 points and 4.3 rebounds a game for Rick Pitino’s Gaels and was named MAAC Player of the Year. If Iona is going to make noise, Clayton is a big reason why. He’s also the nation’s best free throw shooter at 95%.
57. Julian Strawther – Gonzaga
Named First Team All-WCC, Strawther’s emergence is a major reason that Gonzaga is in this position again this year. This junior forward is averaging 15.1 points and 5.9 rebounds this year and is a former 4-star recruit who’s 42% from long range. Strawther starred with a 40-point effort against Portland earlier in the season and can really be a breakout threat for the Bulldogs.
56. Oumar Ballo – Arizona
Despite losing significant talent from last year, Arizona remains a top-level team in part due to Ballo’s development. He’s carved a major as the Wildcats’ center, averaging 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds after originally following head coach Tommy Lloyd over from Gonzaga. Ballo led the Pac-12 in field goal percentage and was named both First Team All-Pac-12 and the Most Improve Player in the conference.
