By Joey Loose
45. Terrence Shannon Jr. – Illinois
A talented wing and important offensive piece of the puzzle, Shannon has played his role well at Illinois after spending the last three years playing at Texas Tech. He averaged 17.1 points and 4.7 rebounds to lead the Fighting Illini back to the Big Dance, earning First Team All-Big Ten honors along the way. His early season 29-point performance in a win over UCLA is proof that he’s ready for the biggest stage yet again.
44. Mike Miles Jr. – TCU
TCU’s major backcourt presence, Miles averaged 17.3 points per game this season and was sorely missed by the Horned Frogs when he missed most of February with injury. Miles’ had an electric performance with a 33-point effort in an earlier win at Baylor and was named Second Team All-Big 12 for a second straight season. TCU’s success in the postseason rests on Miles’ leadership.
43. Bryce Hopkins – Providence
Hopkins is a talented sophomore wing who’s found a major role with the Friars after being just a bench piece as a freshman at Kentucky. Hopkins averaged 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds this year in a breakout season, earning First Team All-Big East honors in leading the Friars back into national relevance. Though he wasn’t hot down the stretch, he’ll face his former school in the first round of the Big Dance, with revenge potentially on the mind.
42. Colby Jones – Xavier
In his third year with the Musketeers, Jones continues to improve, averaging 15.2 points and 5.4 rebounds as one of the best wings in the Big East. One season after leading Xavier on an NIT run, he earned Second Team All-Big East honors and had multiple 20-point games down the stretch run for the Musketeers this season.
41. Anton Watson – Gonzaga
Watson is a senior forward who’s really emerged in his first year as a full-time starter, averaging 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds in a leadership role with the Bulldogs. Watson is a highly-rated offensive player who put up 20 points against San Francisco just over a week ago in the WCC Tournament and has made nearly 68% of his 2-point baskets on the year.
