NCAA Tournament 2023: Ranking all remaining Sweet 16 teams
10. Miami Hurricanes – 27-7 (15-5 ACC)
Wins over Drake and Indiana
The Hurricanes are the last remaining team from the ACC, although they nearly were out themselves in the Round of 64. Miami did trail for a fair share of the 40 minutes but did manage to hold on when it counted. They prevailed with the 63-56 win, led by 21 points from Nijel Pack and 12 points and 14 rebounds from Norchad Omier, who was a game-time decision with an injury heading into the game.
The second game against Indiana posed a bigger challenge, as they had a star player in Trayce Jackson-Davis. However, Miami had a star of its own to counter that in ACC Player of the Year, Isaiah Wong. He went for a game-high 27 points on 9/17 shooting from the field. Omier pulled down 17 rebounds, while Jordan Miller chipped in with 19 points overall as well in the 85-69 win.
The Hurricanes face its toughest challenge of the season in No. 1 seed Houston, the favorite to get out of the Midwest Region. The Cougars have arguably the best backcourt in the NCAA Tournament but Pack and Wong are good enough to keep them competitive. If the Hurricanes’ offense looks like it did against Indiana, they have a real shot at the upset.
