Penn State Basketball: 12 candidates to replace Micah Shrewsberry as head coach

Steve Wojciechowski
Sometimes the best head coaching hires come when you think outside the box and this one could be exactly that. There’s no connection here to Penn State, we’re just looking at the former Duke point guard from Baltimore who might be looking to get back into the basketball world in leading his own program.
Wojciechowski was on Duke’s team in the mid-90’s and joined Mike Krzyzewski’s staff as an assistant shortly thereafter. He spent fifteen years with the Blue Devils before beginning his head coaching career at Marquette in 2014. He’d spend seven seasons in Milwaukee, taking the Golden Eagles to a pair of NCAA Tournaments but failing to build the program into a power in the Big East. Wojciechowski has been out of coaching the last two seasons, but this could be quite the job to get back into action.
For starters, he was considered one of the favorites for this job in 2003 when things were quite different for both him and Penn State. Additionally, he’s seen Krzyzewski retire and hasn’t returned to the Duke coaching staff under Jon Scheyer. If Wojciechowski wants to get back into collegiate coaching, this might be the perfect type of springboard for him to get on the right track. The geography fits, the location fits, and he can definitely win in the Big Ten after all those years in the ACC and Big East. Would either side be interested in a marriage that didn’t happen two decades earlier?
We’ve finally completed our deep dive into twelve potential names for the Penn State head coaching position; who do you think will be the next Nittany Lions’ head coach?
