Dusty May

Next up we have another mid-major head coach whose become a hot name in the country after a remarkable season, a season that hasn’t yet concluded. May was certainly a name that few people knew a couple years ago, but his work at Florida Atlantic is turning heads and he’ll have that chance at a major program someday very soon.

A former student manager under Bob Knight at Indiana, May’s coaching career has seen him as an assistant at a number of schools, including Murray State, UAB, and under Mike White at both Louisiana Tech and Florida. His head coaching career began in 2018 with Florida Atlantic and his Owls have really exceeded expectations this year, having already won 33 games and sitting in the Sweet Sixteen as a 9-seed.

Regardless of that Tournament run, May is likely to leave Florida Atlantic at some point in the future, but is Penn State the job he really wants? He does have that experience as a student in the Big Ten and might prefer coaching and recruiting back closer to his native footprint. That being said, this job doesn’t feel like the right fit for what May is looking for, especially if he’s hoping to one day call the shots at his alma mater.
