8. Shaheen Holloway – Seton Hall

More than two decades ago, Holloway was a star point guard at Seton Hall who’d later spend seven years playing professional, both in the US and overseas. A three time All-Big East player, Holloway has become better known as a coach than a professional player, spending the first decade plus of his coaching career as an assistant under Kevin Willard, both at Iona and his alma mater. In 2018, his head coaching career began at Saint Peter’s, and most college basketball fans know how that turned out.

Holloway led the Peacocks to an unprecedented Elite Eight run as a 15-seed in last season’s NCAA Tournament and he was soon after hired to lead Seton Hall after Willard departed the school a few weeks earlier. His head coaching career with the Pirates has only just gotten started, finishing 17-16 and tying for 6th place in the conference in his first season. An NIT appearance after having to reload the talent on this team is not a disappointing start.

Holloway has work ahead to keep this program relevant in the Big East, especially to the same level that Willard had it for the last decade. It’s important to remember that Holloway was part of that staff through much of that success. Considering Saint Peter’s Tournament success, it’s clear that Holloway can get the best out of his players and might just have some cool things in store for his alma mater in the years to come.
