Florida Gators

The team was doing okay in the first year for Coach Todd Golden. But when star big man Colin Castleton went down with a season-ending injury, the team tanked to finish under .500. It exposed a backcourt and overall supporting cast that wasn’t good enough to succeeed in the SEC.

Guards Myreon Jones and Kyle Lofton had to move on, while both Trey Bonham and Kowacie Reeves entered the portal. That leaves Will Richard and Riley Kugel, who are more wings than true guards or ball-handlers. Right now, the team is reportedly going after Iona transfer Walton Clayton but he very well could just follow Coach Rick Pitino to St. John’s.

Regardless, the Gators are going to need a couple of guards ready to play. And they made a mistake a year ago, landing too many mid-major guards that wasn’t ready for a top league. Love can do that without question and would be one of the better guards in the SEC.

Coach Golden has a good history with high volume guards, as Jamaree Bouyea and Khalil Shabazz were similar guards at San Francisco but made it to the NCAA Tournament. He can do it again, this time with a better guard in Love at Florida.
