Purdue Boilermakers

Admittedly, this is a little out there when it comes to options. But after what happened with Purdue, losing in the first round to Fairleigh Dickinson, they need to shake up the roster. That’s based on if they return likely NCAA Basketball Player of the Year, Zach Edey. If he’s back, they’ll be a preseason top-5 team and a national title contender.

But in order for them to be successful in the Big Dance, they need to find some offense that isn’t reliant on being open for a three-pointer. In fairness to Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith, they both were freshmen that overachieved compared to expectations. Yet as long as Edey is around, they’ll need to take a step in their production.

What would help is a guard that can give their own offense, whether Edey in on the court or not. Love can do that, similar in a way that Jaden Ivey did for them a year prior. It worked mostly, outside of the Saint Peter’s disaster.

Smith is 6’5 so he can play the defend at the three-point spot and if Love is the primary ball-handler, could either give it down low or pass out to a good three-point shooter. It could benefit everyone involved and maximize Purdue’s chance to win a national title and have Coach Matt Painter break the NCAA Tournament class ceiling of a Final Four appearance.
