5. Nebraska Cornhuskers

It feels like a 16-16 (9-11 Big Ten) record shouldn’t be celebrated much at Nebraska but it was a breakthrough in the Fred Hoiberg coaching era. In the first three years, the team won a combined 24 games and nine in conference play. And for a brief second, they were even on the bubble for the Big Dance.

So the Cornhuskers have to find a way to build on this, making this an important offseason. They’re losing two of their best players via eligibility in Sam Griesel and Derrick Walker but can bring back several others, including guard CJ Wilcher, forward Juwan Gary, and guard Keisei Tominaga.

There are some viable transfer targets for the program, including Hunter Sallis (Gonzaga), Brice Williams (Charlotte), and Kario Oquendo (Georgia). Landing a couple of them would be huge for the Cornhuskers and their efforts to move up the Big Ten ladder.

While we’re still waiting on Zach Edey’s decision for Purdue, the conference looks vulnerable enough for a team like Nebraska to make a move. And for Coach Hoiberg, there’s going to be some pressure for him to build off of the run they made and get back into the NCAA Tournament. Or else, he could be on the hot seat again.
