ACC Basketball: Biggest roster needs for each team this 2023 offseason

Florida State Seminoles – Scoring guard

After all of this past season, the easy answer to this question would’ve been the frontcourt after all of the injuries. However, the team is set to bring back both Jaylan Gainey and Cam’Ron Fletcher from injury and freshman Baba Miller has already declared his intention to return.

So far this offseason, Florida State has lost both Caleb Mills and Matthew Cleveland to the transfer portal. That leaves Darin Green and Jalen Warley as the returning guards, along with Fletcher able to play at the 3-spot. It’s now turned around to where the team needs a perimeter player, one that’s a double-digit scorer.

Virginia Tech Hokies – Frontcourt scoring production

The Hokies have had a couple of decisions regarding their seniors and just recently have lost leading scorer Grant Basile, who has gone pro. He joins Justyn Mutts out the door, which was the starting lineup for the team. They still have some bigs left over in Lynn Kidd and Mylyjael Poteat but neither are offensive threats.

Virginia Tech has added guard/wings Tyler Nickel and Mekhi Long this offseason in the backcourt but with the Basile news, had to add another big in the coming weeks that’s a double-digit contributor. But if Hunter Cattoor also opts to leave, then the Hokies will have more needs to deal with.
