Seton Hall Pirates

This was a fairly big offseason for the Big East when it comes to the head coaches. St. John’s hired Hall of Famer Rick Pitino, while Georgetown took Ed Cooley from Providence. The Friars replaced Cooley with the charismatic Kim English from George Mason.

Speaking of “charismatic”, the big hire a year ago in the conference was Shaheen Holloway, the head coach of the famous Saint Peter’s Elite 8 team. The hype with him has quietly faded, coming off a .500 season and not being in the NCAA Tournament picture. And this offseason, the team has gotten worse, not better.

The Pirates have lost a few players to the transfer portal. That includes a pair of starters (Femi Odukale and Tyrese Samuel), along with key bench forward Tray Jackson. And up to this point, they’ve landed not a single veteran. Making matters worse, the program hasn’t even been active with many targets.

The two known publically were St. John’s transfer Posh Alexander and former North Texas forward Abou Ousmane, who each went elsewhere. The rest of the Big East is getting better and Seton Hall seems to be getting worse, at the very wrong time.
