Class of 2023 targets for St. John’s Basketball
The Red Storm originally had top-100 forward commit Brandon Gardner but he and the program parted ways after the coaching change. St. John’s still is looking for a freshman prospect or two and reportedly there are three prospects in the mix.
Spencer Mahoney
The 6’8 combo forward is from Brooklyn and would be a nice local pickup for the program. He’s a four-star caliber prospect that has had interest from Syracuse, Texas A&M, and others. He’s had a visit this week and there aren’t any wings on the roster so this could be a nice opportunity for him.
Brady Dunlap
Dunlap is a 6’7 wing that originally committed to Notre Dame but de-committed after Coach Mike Brey announced his departure from the program. He’s since released a top-5 list that had the Red Storm on it. He’s a quality shooter that has size and the chance to play for a Hall of Famer should be appealing.
Mackenzie Mgbako
After forwards Mark Mitchell and Kyle Filipowski came back for Duke, Mgbako opted to re-open his recruitment. The five-star combo forward is the highest-ranked prospect available as a consensus top-10 class of 2023 player. Mgbako, who is from New Jersey and has visited the program, could be the focal point of the offense from day 1 and have a much larger role as a freshman than he’d ever have at Duke.
