4. Houston Cougars

Keeping the theme of stars from last season helping with the recruiting pitch, Houston had its highest-ranked prospect even a year ago in Jarace Walker. The AAC Rookie of the Year averaged 11.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg in 35 starts and certainly impressed NBA Draft scouts, currently projected as a top-20 pick.

He’s gone, which opens up the power forward position. The Cougars have a trio of incoming frontcourt freshmen, including four-star forward Joseph Tugler. Obviously, Holland would be an upgrade over Tugler and J’wan Roberts at that spot, and heading into the much toughest Big 12 Conference could use all the talent possible.

Houston is a program that has become a national juggernaut under head coach Kelvin Sampson. And now, they’re starting to consistently get top-25 talent. They’re also doing well via the transfer portal, landing Temple guard Damian Dunn and Baylor high-scorer LJ Cryer.

The only concern for Holland here is that the Cougars are a guard-oriented system and the bigs don’t get the ball a ton. Even as good as Walker was, he was still the 4th option at times. If the former Texas commit wants something bigger, he may have to pick elsewhere. Still, there’s too much potential here to not consider them.
