Kentucky Basketball: Analyzing NBA Draft decisions of Oscar Tshiebwe and Antonio Reeves
Kentucky Basketball NBA Draft prospect – Antonio Reeves
2022-23 season stats: 14.4 ppg and 2.1 rpg
After averaging over 20 ppg at Illinois State, Reeves proved to be the best guard on the team with the Wildcats, whether as a starter or coming off the bench. The 6’4 guard was the SEC 6th Man of the Year, scoring 20+ points 12 different times, including a career-high 37 points against Arkansas.
If you exclude the 1/10 effort against Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament, Reeves shot over 40% from three-point range last season. And for a team that ranked near the bottom nationally in attempts, the guard’s ability to space the floor was at times the only thing that made Kentucky’s offense functional.
Reeves participated in the NBA G-League combine and did well but didn’t advance to the other events. That’s an indication of where his draft stock is, which likely isn’t getting drafted. He’ll be 23 years old by the start of the next season in the Fall and could very well go pro but he’d have a big role with the Wildcats as the lone proven pure shooter on the roster.
The question may be whether Reeves prefers to start next season, which could force one of the five-star prospects to come off the bench. He’s also a grad transfer candidate so the portal timeline wouldn’t affect him. But at this point, there’s nothing around that seems as if that’s an option. It’ll be either pro or the draft for him also.
