NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 5 early contenders for transfer forward Grant Nelson

A week ago, the Razorbacks were viewed as the NCAA Basketball leaders for Ron Holland, a five-star forward prospect after he de-committed from the Texas Longhorns. However, the bigger threat proved to the G League Ignite Team, which ultimately landed his signature. But based on reports, the SEC program seemed to have found a new frontcourt target.

But the program still has one scholarship left and it’s simply been too long since they landed a transfer. Arkansas landed five guards so far this offseason, including Khalif Battle and El Ellis. The frontcourt had its own departures, as forward Jordan Walsh has stayed in the NBA Draft, while Makhel Mitchell transferred out.

That leaves Makhi Mitchell, five-star incoming freshman Baye Fall, and Trevon Brazile, a talented forward that was a double-digit scorer off the bench before suffering a season-ending injury. So in a way, there isn’t any proven SEC healthy production guaranteed to be 100% at the start of next season.

Nelson would instantly be the focal point of the Razorbacks’ frontcourt on offense and can play next to any of the bigs on the roster. He can play at center next to Brazile or Jalen Graham, or be the four-man next to Mitchell and Fall. He’ll have to improve his three-point shooting in order to be successful at that spot in the league but there’s plenty of potential at this destination.
