NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact transfer pickups from 2023 offseason
By John Makuch
No. 8 Tyler Burton (Villanova)
Kyle Neptune and Villanova have been dominant forces in the transfer portal, and acquiring Tyler Burton helped cap that off to make this such a complete class. We already mentioned TJ Bamba, but Burton could be the jewel of them all for the Wildcats.
Burton played the last four seasons in the A-10 for the Richmond Spiders, and last year he was a top 50 scorer averaging 19 points per game with 7.4 rebounds per game. He is a 6’7 215 wing that can score very effectively and helps out Villanova’s need to get to the basket. Neptune has now put together one of the top classes in the nation, and after a year that left a lot to be desired, and the return of Justin Moore, this team is reloaded, and ready to make waves in the Big East.
Burton brings along four years of experience, the ability to put up nearly 20 points per game, and a physicality that is necessary to survive in the Big East Conference. He may have an adjustment to the competition to make, and with the improvements that all the other Big East squads made, that adjustment may be harder than in recent years.
However, Burton’s talent is evident, and he will be an instant impact for the Villanova Wildcats as they look to get back to the top of the Big East.
