17. Jameer Nelson Jr.

A 6’1 guard from Haverford, Pennsylvania, Nelson looked to follow in his father’s footsteps as a dynamic backcourt presence, though Nelson’s career began at George Washington, an A-10 rival of Saint Joseph’s where his father once starred. However, that wasn’t the right fir for Nelson, who transferred after less than a season and a half with the Colonials, arriving at Delaware in the CAA in 2021.

These past two years were pretty special for Nelson and the Blue Hens. He was a major weapon from the beginning, averaging 13.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in his first season, a year that would end with a trip to the Big Dance. The offensive fireworks would come during his senior year, including a 39-point effort against UNC Wilmington late in the season. In all, he was putting up 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.

Among the national leaders in points and steals, it’s no shocker that Nelson found a place on both First Team All-CAA and the league’s All-Defense squad. He did everything the Blue Hens needed from him during those two seasons and was a marvelous addition to Martin Ingelsby’s program, helping deliver the first trip to the NCAA Tournament in nearly a decade. His time in the CAA won’t be forgotten, but it’s the Big 12 that gets his services now, as he’ll spend next season at TCU.
