CAA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
23. Damion Lee
A 6’6 wing originally from Baltimore, Lee was a recruit of head coach Bruiser Flint who arrived at Drexel back in 2011. He had an impactful presence while with the Dragons, starting most of the games in his first two seasons before missing most of his junior year with an injury. We won’t focus on those early seasons, but his bounce-back senior season gave us enough reason to rank him.
Lee played just five games as a junior but came back with a vengeance once back on the court. In what became his redshirt junior season, he averaged 21.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He had a 32-point effort early in the season against USC and would repeat the feat a few times in conference play, helping lead the Dragons to a late winning streak, though they’d finish just 6th in the conference. Additionally, Lee shot 38% from outside the arc and became one of the best backcourt pieces in the conference.
Lee’s great bounce-back campaign didn’t fall on deaf ears, as the former Rookie of the Year was named First Team All-CAA and to the league’s All-Defense squad. He became the league’s best shooter, was tops in points per game, and finished among the national leaders with his 89% mark from the charity stripe. Lee would then grad transfer to Louisville for his senior season, though the production he put up in the CAA was far more impressive.
