NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact freshmen classes for 2023-24 season
8. Louisville Cardinals
After winning just four total games last season, it should be viewed as highly impressive that Coach Kenny Payne and the staff were able to land a top-10 overall recruiting class, with three of the commits coming since the start of the offseason.
The two long-time commits are both forwards in Kaleb Gleen and Curtis Williams. Both are four-star prospects and the prototypical wings, listed at 6’6 and around 200 pounds each. After losing both Devin Ree and Kamari Lands this offseason, there’s room in the rotation for both of them, joined by USC transfer, Tre White.
The keys to this group and its hope to improve are the other three players. One is Ty-Laur Johnson, a four-star point guard, and former Memphis commit. The lack of ball-handlers was a major problem last season and the hope is that he’ll provide depth behind Illinois transfer, Skyy Clark next year.
Plus, there’s a pair of top-30 prospects joining too. Dennis Evans is a 7’11 center and former Minnesota commit that has the ability to dominate defensively. And Trentyn Flowers is a 6’8 guard/wing that can play and guard three different positions. He reclassified from the 2024 recruiting class but can be placed anywhere in the lineup where there are deficiencies. And based on last season, there certainly are some.
