NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact freshmen classes for 2023-24 season
7. UConn Huskies
Even before winning the national championship, the Huskies were already set in the 2023 class with its quality five-man group. But after the ensuing roster changes that occurred this offseason, there’s a good chance that multiple incoming freshmen will have an impact early on.
The star of the group is Stephon Castle, a top-10 overall prospect in the group. He’s a 6’6 combo guard and can effectively play and defend three positions on the court. He can handle the ball and shoot at a high level and based on the roster should be a key figure. With Tristen Newton and Rutgers transfer Cam Spencer in the lineup, he’ll likely play on the wing but can move anywhere throughout the game.
Another ball-handler in the group is Solomon Ball, a top 50 shooting guard. The hope for him is that he can develop into an elite shooter/scorer like Jordan Hawkins, who was picked in the first round of the NBA Draft. And when Castle isn’t on the wings, look for Jayden Ross and Jaylin Stewart, two four-star wing prospects, to get rotation minutes there.
And rounding out the group is Youssouf Singare, a 7’0 center and four-star prospect. With Adama Sanogo gone to the NBA, he’ll be set to backup Donovan Clingan on the roster. With this group of prospects joining the team, look for UConn to be a national contender once again.
