CUSA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
15. Jahmir Young
One of Ron Sanchez’s first recruits at Charlotte, Young is a 6’2 combo guard from Hyattsville, Maryland who joined the 49ers in 2019. He spent three years as a full-time starter and major weapon in Charlotte’s backcourt before transferring to Maryland the Big Ten this past season. We’ll see that he did plenty to stand out in those seasons in the CUSA.
As a freshman, Young was already a standout, averaging 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds a game in the season shortened by the pandemic. Charlotte struggled in his second year, but he was up to 18.0 points a game with decent shooting numbers. In his third and final campaign in Charlotte, Young averaged 19.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and had several great shooting nights for the 49ers.
Young was named CUSA Rookie of the Year and then took home First Team All-CUSA honors in his next two seasons. He was one of the nation’s best free throw shooters and finished second in the CUSA in scoring as a junior. Young put up decent figures across the board and his offensive metrics were truly impressive in those last few seasons with the 49ers. He was a major weapon last year at Maryland and will look to continue that success this upcoming season.
