NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 10 early contenders for Kansas transfer Marcus Adams Jr.
San Diego Toreros
It’s a complete rebuild for the 9th-place WCC team, having lost their top four players. That includes forwards Jaiden Delaire and Marcus Earlington. They’re a team that already has six incoming freshmen and Adams would be No. 7 but on paper, easily the most talented. When it comes to roles and minutes, San Diego can offer the most. But in the win/loss category, they’re the worst of the group for now.
UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos
The Gauchos landed one of the biggest names in the transfer portal this offseason in Yohan Traore, a former five-star prospect from Auburn. He was supposed to be paired with Kansas forward Zach Clemence but he stuck with the Jayhawks instead. Adams could replace him and thrive in the Big West and for a program in Santa Barbara that’s been a consistent winning program as of late.
West Virginia Mountaineers
The Mountaineers have four open roster spots after the coaching change a month ago, including on the wing. Adams could realistically start either at the three or four-spot since both Jose Perez and starting forward Tre Mitchell are gone. There certainly wouldn’t be an issue with playing time at WVU.
The problem here is that the program is rolling with an interim head coach in Josh Eilert. He may not be around a year from now and Adams has to be concerned about who the next coach would be, especially if he’s unable to transfer next offseason. So it’s a big risk vs a potentially big reward here.
