Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
9. Jalen Moore
A 5’11 point guard from Cloverdale, Indiana, Moore began his own college career in 2018 at Olney Central College in Illinois. After two seasons there, he transferred to Oakland and became the starter at the point for the Golden Grizzlies for the next three seasons, putting a much more appealing finish on his collegiate career.
Oakland didn’t have the best on-court success during Moore’s tenure, but he was a dynamic weapon during those three years. In his first year, he averaged 17.9 points and 8.4 assists and wasted no time getting acclimated to the Horizon League, including a triple-double against Detroit. He helped lead Oakland to a 20-win season the next year before averaging 19.6 points per game as a fifth-year senior, taking advantage of that bonus year from the pandemic.
Moore led the entire nation with his 252 assists in 2021. He earned First Team All-Horizon honors in his first and third years in Oakland, claiming Second Team honors in between. He was also one of the league’s top scorers during this three-year stretch and was also among the national leaders in steals as a senior. Oakland didn’t break any records or play significant postseason ball, but they had one heck of a contributor in Moore.
