7. Kay Felder
Felder arrived at Oakland has a minor recruit, but departed three years later after being taken in the NBA Draft. A 5’9 point guard from Detroit, he was a leader and major offensive weapon for three seasons for the Golden Grizzlies, certainly easing the program’s transition into the Horizon League beginning in 2013.
He had impressive figures for a freshman, averaging 9.5 points and 6.4 assists, but turned his game up a notch. After surpassing 18 points a game in year two, he actually averaged 24.4 points and 9.3 assists per game during his junior season, a 23-win campaign for the Golden Grizzlies. Felder was Oakland basketball during that season, scoring 20 points in nearly every game and becoming one of the nation’s premier ball distributors.
Horizon League Rookie of the Year honors were impressive, but Felder was just getting started back then. He led the nation in assists and finished second in total points scored during a junior season where he was named Horizon League Player of the Year. His individual statistics across the board were extremely impressive and he helped but Oakland in a competitive position in their first few seasons in the Horizon League.
