MAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
15. Chris Fowler
A 6’1 point guard from Southfield, Michigan, Fowler was a key piece during Keno Davis’s first four seasons leading Central Michigan. They arrived together back in 2012, with Fowler serving as the starting point guard for all 120 games he played with the Chippewas. He had solid numbers as a freshman, but we’re looking at those later years today.
He served an important role in every aspect of the offense. Fowler averaged 17.4 points and 5.3 assists as a sophomore and was Central Michigan’s leading scorer in each of his final three seasons. In his upperclassman years, he led the Chippewas on top of the MAC West standings, getting the program to the NIT as a junior, and CIT as a senior. During his junior year, he also had a 42-point explosion against Bowling Green.
An important leader for this offense, Fowler was named First Team All-MAC in each of those last two seasons, finishing among the MAC’s leaders in points, steals, and assists in those seasons. While Central Michigan didn’t make the NCAA Tournament, Fowler played a large role in that success, especially in that 23-win campaign during his junior year.
