20. Julius Brown

Brown is a 5’10 point guard from Markham, Illinois who had some pretty great years while at Toledo. He arrived in 2011 and immediately became a leader, starting all 131 games he’d play for the Rockets. Brown was already putting up great production early in his career, though we’re just looking at those upperclassman years for today’s purposes.

As a junior, he averaged 14.9 points and 6.0 assists, leading Toledo to 27 wins and the regular season title in the MAC. Though the Rockets faltered in that conference tournament, Brown established himself as a top point guard in the conference throughout his career. He had similar numbers in another 20-win season as a senior, now up to 16.3 points a game, though Toledo fell just short of the NCAA Tournament again. He did put up a career-high 31 points in a January loss to Western Michigan.

There were a lot of things that Brown did great while with the Rockets, and it’s why he was named First Team All-MAC for those final two seasons. His scoring numbers were great, he was the league’s leader in assists and free throw shooting late in his career, and he led Toledo to a ton of wins late in his career. While it’s unfortunate that he didn’t have postseason success, Brown still proved himself as one of the league’s finest point guards in recent years.
