Tyzhaun Claude – 6’8 Forward/Center – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Tyzhaun Claude seems to have outgrown his stay in the SoCon with the Western Carolina Catamounts as he joins the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC for the upcoming season. He’s a burden to bear in the paint at 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds he’s continued to show improvement every season he steps on the hardwood.

As a junior at Western Carolina, he terrorized opposing teams, racking up 11 double-doubles across 31 appearances in his first full season on the hardwood since 2019-20 when he was at Morehead State. Claude produced 15.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg and nearly a block per game on 52.3 percent shooting from the field in 2022-23.

He’s a rebounding nightmare on both ends of the floor that snagged a career-high 17 rebounds (7 offensive) against Citadel back on Jan. 14, 2023. His career-high scoring night came on Feb. 1 against Samford as he was dialed in the paint with 24 points on 8-for-15 shooting and 8-of-11 from the free throw line.

His ability to take up space and create problems in the painted area is certainly something Georgia Tech can utilize in 2023-24. They return four players from last season’s squad which is currently comprised of two guards and two wing prospects. Playing time for Claude is wide open even with the additions of Tafara Gapare (UMass) and Ebenezer Dowuona (NC State) out of the portal.

Claude still remains the most productive out of the bunch on both ends of the floor. He finished first in the Sun Belt in total rebounds (266) and fourth in the conference in total blocks (28). His 98 offensive rebounds also led the conference by the season’s end. He’s an active presence in the paint that knows how to keep plays alive. He’ll look to keep things alive in the Yellow Jackets’ frontcourt this season.
