SR Dusan Mahorcic

2022-23 season stats: 8.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg

Going on his 6th team in six years, the 6’10 center is set to be the replacement for Austin Rotroff inside. Mahorcic is a bruising body and a great rebounder, also capable of defending the paint. He was effective in the 10 games he started at NC State and Duquesne will need him to go against the likes of DaRon Holmes (Dayton) and other bigs.

One thing to note is that Mahorcic is coming off a season-ending knee injury in December and is reportedly still recovering. There’s a chance that he won’t be ready on opening day and with Halil Barre also having health issues as well, Duquesne’s depth at center is a question mark right now. But if they can get him on the court, the Dukes will have one of the top bigs in the A-10.

SR Andrei Savrasov

2022-23 season stats: 14.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg

The 6’7 forward started out at Texas Tech but became a star in the Sun Belt at Georgia Southern, leading them in both scoring and rebounding. Savrasov shot 50% from the field and 36% from three-point range. Some key performances from the forward include 21 points and 11 rebounds against Appalachian State, as well as 28 against the same team late last season.

The ideal scenario for Duquesne is that Savrasov replaces RJ Gunn as the stretch forward on the team and on paper, he’s the only one that can do that at a high level. If injuries force Tre Williams to play mainly at the five, look for Savrasov to be the starting forward, with the Drames backing them up off the bench.
