Jameer Nelson Jr. – 6’1 Guard – TCU Horned Frogs

Jameer Nelson Jr., the son of former NBA standout Jameer Nelson, has hit the college basketball landscape by storm and joins the Big 12’s TCU Horned Frogs looking to grow his star status. Nelson’s father played 14 seasons in the NBA after attending Saint Joseph’s from 2000-04. The younger Jameer has ties to the Atlantic 10 and then some as he continues to climb up the radar.

Nelson began his career in the Atlantic 10 with the George Washington Colonials then after seven games during his second year, he entered the transfer portal and landed in the CAA with the Delaware Blue Hens.

He spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with Delaware where things continued to improve for him with a change of scenery. In 2021-22, he led the Blue Hens to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014 with a CAA Tournament Championship.

He finished this past season averaging 20.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.6 apg and 2.4 spg while earning first-team All-CAA honors and CAA All-Defensive team honors. Much like his father, he’s got a pedigree for making his presence felt as both a scorer, playmaker and defender.

He scored a career-high 39 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the floor and 5-of-8 from deep back on Feb. 18 in a victory over UNC-Wilmington. He also had three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

He’s a big-framed guard that’s shown he can knock down shots all over the floor while still keeping his teammates involved. He led the CAA in scoring, steals, free throws (159) and finished second in PER (25.3) and points produced per game (582) this past season.

Nelson has shown he can be a consistent face at the lead guard spot in any backcourt so far. Now, he’ll look the up the ante a bit with his addition to the Horned Frogs rotation in the Big 12. Nelson leads the charge for a few prospects out of the transfer portal looking to make an immediate impact.
