OVC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
6. Jonathan Stark
Stark is a 6’0 point guard from Munford, Tennessee who actually began his college career at Tulane. He had two pretty decent seasons for the Green Wave before deciding to transfer, arriving at Murray State. After sitting out a year, Stark became a menace in those final two seasons for the Racers.
That time with Murray State began in 2017 and he wasted no time, averaging 21.9 points and 5.2 assists in his redshirt junior season. He had some nice performances early in the year but went on a tear in the OVC Tournament, dropping 41 points on Tennessee Tech and 37 on Morehead State before the Racers were upended. Stark continued to be a dynamic scorer as a senior, averaging 21.4 points and leading Murray State to the NCAA Tournament after this time winning the OVC Tournament title.
Stark was the OVC’s leading scorer in each of those seasons and took home OVC Player of the Year honors as a senior. He had great numbers down the line, was the OVC’s top long-range shooter, and contributed to some great success for the Racers, especially in that senior season. Stark had the impact and the numbers and his decision to transfer to Murray State was clearly a wise one.
