OVC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
2. Terry Taylor
Taylor is a 6’5 forward from Bowling Green, Kentucky who had an extremely productive collegiate career at Austin Peay. The Governors never played in the NCAA Tournament, but Taylor helped make this program competitive in the OVC. Unsurprisingly, he also put up some very impressive numbers on his own.
Taylor started all 127 games he played at Austin Peay and was already a potent scorer as a freshman. He would actually average at least 20 points per game in each of his final three seasons. The Governors finished Top 5 in the OVC in all four of these seasons, while Taylor averaged a double-double in his final two years, averaging no less than 21 points and 11 rebounds both seasons. Among the highlights was a 42-point, 18-rebound effort at Morehead State as a sophomore and a 26-point, 23-rebound game at Belmont the following season.
Not only was Taylor another player named First Team All-OVC for four straight years, he was also the OVC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He scored 2507 points in an incredible career and was a dynamic rebounder as well, especially on the offensive boards. Taylor was everything for Austin Peay during those four seasons and was one of the best scorers and rebounders that the OVC has ever seen. Obviously, it remains an immense shame that he never got the spotlight of the NCAA Tournament.
