Daniss Jenkins – 6’3 Guard – St. John’s Red Storm

Daniss Jenkins is an emerging combo guard that’s been quite the journeyman in the college basketball ranks since joining the St. John’s Red Storm in the Big East. He began his career in 2019-20 at Pacific in the WCC and following the 2021-22 season he would enter the transfer portal and head to the MAAC in the east with the Iona Gaels.

This past season with the Gaels, Jenkins would put up some of his best production in the backcourt. He averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.9 apg, 4.4 rpg and 1.1 spg on 36.1 percent shooting from the arc and 41.8 percent shooting from the field, all career-high numbers. He finished that year on the second-team All-MAAC squad, finishing first in assists (173), third in steals (48), third in field goals made (199), sixth in defensive rating (98.1) and ninth in offensive rating (110.5).

Jenkins is a playmaking guard that can also score the basketball in a variety of ways and hold his own defensively. He’s a player that knows how to turn things on when it’s time to win games. His presence in the St. John’s backcourt should work wonders for their two returners.

He was this season’s MAAC Tournament MVP following a 27-point performance on 8-of-18 shooting from the field and six made 3-pointers against Marist to punch their ticket to an NCAA Tournament bid.

He squared off with the UConn Huskies in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this past season. He didn’t shoot the ball particularly well but he still put together a solid stat line with 14 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds against a Big East squad. He’ll have a chance to do a lot more of that when conference action arrives.
