Dayvion McKnight – 6’0 Guard – Xavier Musketeers

Dayvion McKnight joins the Xavier Musketeers following a three-year stint with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in Conference USA. He’s a small guard that isn’t afraid to do a little bit of everything to make his presence felt when he’s on the hardwood. McKnight will look to become a staple in the Big East much like he did over the past two seasons in Conference USA action with the Hilltoppers.

He averaged 16.2 ppg, and put up career-highs in both rebounds per game (5.5), assists per game (5.5) and steals per game (1.9) during the 2021-22 season, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors as a result. He also shot a career-high 34.1 percent from 3-point range and 47 percent from the floor on the season.

In 2022-23, McKnight nearly replicated his production with 16.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.8 apg and 1.8 spg on 33.9 percent shooting from deep and 45.6 percent shooting from the field in the Western Kentucky backcourt. He earned second-team All-Conference USA honors while finishing third in the conference in field goals made (199) and fourth in field goal percentage (45.6 percent).

He’s shown already he can compete against high-major competition. He set his career-high of 34 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and 13-of-14 shooting from the free-throw line back on November 12, 2021, against the Big Ten’s Minnesota Golden Gophers. He also had nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in that one. His career-high of seven steals was set back on Nov. 30 against Austin Peay this past season.

He’s a 6-foot guard that knows how to get his buckets in traffic in an efficient manner. With just Zach Freemantle back from injury, he’ll be one of a few names out of the transfer portal the Musketeers with rely on to replicate last year’s NCAA Tournament run.
