Josh Oduro – 6’9 Forward – Providence Friars

Josh Oduro is a big man to get to know with the Providence Friars as he joins head coach Kim English with the Friars looking to make more noise in the paint this upcoming season in the Big East. He spent the past four seasons with the George Mason Patriots, two with Coach English before heading to Providence as a portal acquisition.

Oduro was a first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection the past two seasons with the Patriots. He averaged 15.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg and 2.6 apg on 55.1 percent shooting from the field across 33 appearances, all starts, in 2022-23.

He racked up a season-high 13 double-doubles a season ago, a total that exceeded more than all three of his previous seasons combined. He recorded a career-high 15 rebounds (7 offensive) in one of the double-doubles against St. Louis in a conference battle back on Jan. 11. He also scored 26 points in that one.

In 2021-22, he led the conference in scoring at 17.7 ppg along with 7.5 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.7 bpg and 1.1 spg on 52.9 percent shooting from the field. He snagged just six double-doubles. Though, he did record his career-high of 33 points on February 16, 2022 against St. Joe’s on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor, 2-for-3 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot-9 big man finished fourth in the A-10 in rebounds (262), third in defensive rebounds (180) and fourth in offensive rebounds (82) this past season. He’s a magnet for the ball on both ends of the floor when he’s in the painted area. Add that to his ability to score around the rim. He finished third in the conference in field goal percentage (55.1 percent) and fifth in field goals made (201).

He’s a strong-framed big man with a knack for making things happen around the rim. He’ll join former teammates Justyn Fernandez and Davonte Gaines out of the portal as they look to continue to build success on the hardwood.
